Diversity in clothing at workplace
Actually the diversity in clothing is due to
diversity in religion, culture. As people belonging to different religion and
culture have different dress codes. Men belonging to Sikh community usually
wear turban and women wear dupattas. Same as Muslim ladies wear headscarf
.these dress codes are mandatory to them according to their religion.
Muslim women wear hijabs on their
workplace. Usually challenges to such dress codes is "safety ". Long
beard is also not allowed at some places as long beard interfere with jobs
necessity as it is hard the use of respiratory system in air tight containers
such as tanks for military.
As long the barriers of discrimination
are crossed the employee can express themselves.
Staff indeed don't have any legitimate rights
by human resource of self-expression in their appearance. Companies can force
their workforce to wear particular clothes and follow their listed standard. But
sometimes these rules become the necessity of the job for the purpose of
safety. For instance the employee working in some factory are not allowed to
have long hairs as their hair could get caught in heavy machine or could struck
in case of emergency and the employers should not take any chance related to
safety.
On
other hands, Call center workforce talking to customer on telephone so their client
don't see represents. So it should not matters what the person wears. The
other purpose of dress is appearance, lawyer on job at court needs to wear
proper dress so that people can easily approach him.
Safety and security should be the key
components for any dress code or policies.
